Solutions For Slow Internet Speeds
You can generally fix a slow internet connection if the issue is on your end, but the solution depends on what’s causing the slowdowns. Here are some of the solutions to what could be causing you and your business these issues:
Your router needs a reboot - We know that this is the classical response to a problem when there is a technological problem, however you'd be surprised how many times this works. Equipment restarts are hands down the most effective internet troubleshooting solution. This should always be your first step.
Too many devices could be connected at once - We are being increasingly reliant on using devices that require an internet connection to be able to work. Older Wi-Fi networks weren't designed to have that many devices connected at once, therefore this would slow down the Wi-Fi speeds. If you are able to, you should upgrade to a more modern Wi-Fi router, this would increase your Wi-Fi speeds and allow you to connect even more devices.
Where you place your Wi-Fi router - If you place your Wi-Fi router in a bad place, then the signal will struggle to be able to reach to your devices. To resolve this you should place your Wi-Fi in a place where it avoids walls and obstructions, or you could use an Ethernet cable to connect a device directly to the router.
Your Wi-Fi channel is heavily congested - Depending on where your business is located, you may be surrounded by hundreds of different Wi-Fi networks. These all take a little bit of the available frequency bandwidth. If you have devices that are able to use an Ethernet cable, you could connect them to your router to get the most of the bandwidth that you have available.
You have slow or outdated devices - It’s not always your internet connection that’s causing the slowdowns, it could be one or more of your devices. If your slowdowns are limited to certain devices, you should start your troubleshooting efforts with those devices rather than your internet connection; sometimes, they just need a simple restart.
